Hello dear reader,
Gosh, sounding a bit too much like our Bridgerton’s snarky little Lady Whistledown over here! Oops! I really am that influenceable with language. If you haven’t jumped on this year’s favorite pulp binge series yet, I do highly recommend sinking your teeth into Netflix’s Bridgerton. Shonda Rhimes is the showrunner (creator/head writer/executive producer) for hits Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. Thus far, her first foray into the world of Netflix collabs is very juicy indeed. I didn’t think I would like it! After episode 5, I was done for. If you’d even maybe get down with a regency period-drama serving escapism and heat, I encourage you to check this one out.
(And my goddess, the acting! So good.)
Not gonna lie– I very near did not send out an e-mail this week! It really is supposed to be on Tuesdays, which has slowly become Wednesdays, and I simply cannot let myself slide another day in vain perfectionism, waiting until I have enough clarity to write.
When I started out The Skinless Grape part of my efforts were towards establishing routine, a habit; committing to improving, and thus committing to failing as well. Improving what? Well, namely, writing. But also to deepen my relationship with all of the facets I can offer until I can fashion the whole: a container, a brand, a space that cultivates community. A space started by the spark I am nourishing here.
Being a renaissance woman in that I have such a wide, odd variety of artistic talents I can see how I might get lost in trying to make sense of it all for too long. I don’t think I’ll be able to do it in a hypothetical manner. Won’t be able to know my voice before I kick off to the races. No sense in waiting for answers no-one else can give. So, here is the place where I am beginning to weave my various inklings and daemons, impulses and abilities. Up close and personal. When I am called to step back and have a gander at it all, surely the picture of what my artistic tapestry looks like will be much clearer.
I’ve been in the throws of a couple types of different creatings this week: devising an immersive poetry show for The Hollywood Fringe Festival (over zoom with 11 people no less), and making a video installation for this week’s Secret Circus.
Remember that publication about my first video installation? Remember that one about The Secret Circus? Well, girl. Those two threads of mine are fusing together this Friday and it is going to be a ball.
Alrighty then, I can see Spring purples bleeding into the creamy blue sky we have going here in Los Angeles. The palm trees are stretching in their orange colors negligees and it is time for me to go! I am off to model for a life-drawing class in that University I wrote you about ;)
Would you look at that, all these threads meeting here in one newsletter. Perhaps we’ll have more clarity on who I am as an artist sooner than we thought!
(or, perhaps I need to keep relaxing into the unknown and showing up with the consistent and structured energy of the divine masculine every week to just do the do.)
C U Next Tuesday!
Julia
You are amazing, keep imagining and writing....
