This week, I want to take a moment to spotlight one of my very favorite substacks, Flow State. Every day, Flow State provides two hours of excellent music to flow with while you work. Yesterday’s flow was Hiroko Ishimoto, a Japanese pianist based in Budapest. In this album I’ve linked, she performs compositions by women from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
I have discovered many great artists through this wonderful substack, including recently departed guitarist Jeff Beck. Rest in Power, Jeff. Your artistry will rock on forevermore.
As I delved into Ishimoto’s LP yesterday, I found much joy using Notion to create a system with which to organize my clown class exercises. Notion is an immensely powerful tool to supply you with a second brain. What’s a second brain? Exactly what it sounds like. A brain outside your own brain to store and classify data for you to dip into as needed. No matter what you do, I highly recommend it. Staying in the present is a persistent problem area for so many. By dumping and organizing your information elsewhere, you can more easily let go of depending on memory and mental fortitude and simply be in the moment. Then, when you have a class to create, a to-do list to attack, copy to write, films to review, ideas to expand on, you can return to your second brain and jump in with a brazen productivity akin to the most cutting-edge of computers.
I wanted to offer these two recommendations today as we get into this new year because isn’t attacking our bigger dreams what January is all about? These tools are helping me, so perhaps they’ll help you, too.
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I am going for my dreams and will begin to host clown workshops here in Texas. I’d like to share a little bit about how that’s going! Which is excellently! My first will be a basic clown workshop in late January, and it is already starting to fill up in its first week on Eventbrite. I am offering it for a suggested donation of $30-$80 to make it as accessible as possible. I’ll be hosting 14 brave people to play with a curriculum designed to impart the simple, beautiful truth that you are enough.
Here is a peek at a pitch deck I built to lure those who aren’t in the clowny know. Clown is for everyone and supports the healing and betterment of everyone. It is undoubtedly a craft that will enhance all types of performance, but it is also an art that elevates every human experience. With my workshops, I look forward to breathing new life into unexpected spaces outside the improv and acting world.
Aloha nui loa,
Julia Fae
Happy to learn your dreamchasing is off to a good start. Notion is an intriguing tool, I might give it a go. And I loved the Rest in Power bit. That is... powerful.
